Is Big Business for Open Source Software?

Some people point to venture capitalists, confidence men, and failed Open Source start-ups as proof that Mammon corrupts and destroys the Open Source dream. Closer to the truth is that very few except the large companies are going to make big money from Open Source software. Nevertheless Open Source needs business, including Big Business, as much as business needs Open Source. Even if you believe in the inevitability of Open Source winning a large or even total market share, the technology and marketing resources of large companies will speed the adoption of and provide otherwise unobtainable technology to Open Source software.
