Henry Lowood is Curator for History of Science & Technology Collections at Stanford University and a Lecturer in History and Philosophy of Science Program and in the Science and Technology Studies Program. He has written widely in the history of science and technology.
Currently, he is co-Principal Investigator of "How They Got Game: The History and Culture of Interactive Simulations and Videogames," a research project sponsored by the Stanford Humanities Laboratory. One component of this project is the development of the Machinima Archives, another is devoted to the history of military simulation. For the last four years, he has taught an annual course on the history of computer game design at Stanford, the first on this topic offered in the United States.

At Stanford, Lowood played a lead role in the acquisition of the Stephen M. Cabrinety Collection in the History of Microcomputing. The Cabrinety Collection is perhaps the largest collection of historical software held by a research library or archival repository, and it presents a case study for the significant issues facing such collections of preservation, processing, interpretation, and access.
