Dawn M. Leach



Dawn Leach is private docent for art theory and art history at the Carl-von-Ossietzky University Oldenburg. She has been quest lecturer for contemporary art history at the Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf, the University Essen and the Academy of Fine Arts Düsseldorf, where she is now head of archives and collections.

She is author of “Artists, Artworks, and Intellectual Property in an Electronic Environment” and “Richard Hamilton: The Beginnings of his Art”. Her publications include several articles about contemporary artists, about the Düsseldorf School of Painters, and the use of computer technology in the management and preservation of art collections and national heritage.

Besides being an active member of the College Art Association and the Verband Deutscher Kunsthistoriker, she is elected member of the International Artists Committee (IKG) and served on its board of directors from 1997-2001. She has planned and contributed to historical and contemporary art exhibitions, been quest speaker and panellist on issues of art, art photography, electronic aided art and most recently given a talk on intellectual property in a series on “Indoor Language” in Basel.

Dr. Leach earned a BA in art and art history at Beloit College, Wisconsin, a MA in art history at the university in Würzburg, a PhD in art history at the Ruhr-University Bochum and a postdoctoral in art theory at the Carl-von-Ossietzky University Oldenburg.
