Ulrich Pöschl

Ulrich Pöschl is heading a research group at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Biogeochemistry Department, in Mainz, Germany (link www.mpch-mainz.mpg.de). He has studied chemistry at the Technical University of Graz, Austria, and he has worked as a postdoctoral fellow, research scientist, group leader, and university lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Departments of Chemistry and of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences; at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry Department; and at the Technical University of Munich, Institute of Hydrochemistry.

His current research and teaching are focused on the properties and interactions of aerosols and their effects on atmospheric chemistry and physics, the biosphere, climate, and public health (field measurements, laboratory experiments, and numerical modelling). In collaboration with a globally distributed network of co-editors, he has initiated and established the successful interactive open access journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP, link www.atmos-chem-phys.org), and he serves as the president of the Atmospheric Sciences Division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU, link www.copernicus.org/EGU).
